What is a modular kitchen?

Modular Kitchen is a term used for the modern kitchen furniture layout consisting of modules of cabinets made of diversified materials which hold accessories inside, which can facilitate the effective usage of the spaces in a kitchen. Normally the units which are kept on the floor are called “floor units” or “floor cabinets” on which a kitchen worktop made of granite, marble, tile or wood has been laid for creating spaces for varied activities in a kitchen.

The units which are held on the wall for storage purposes are termed as “wall units” or “wall cabinets” . In small areas of kitchen in an apartment, even a “tall storage unit” is available for effective storage.
Modular kitchen normally constitutes wooden cabinets, counter tops, internal accessories, electro eomestic gadgets like chimney, hob, built-in-oven, sink with or without drain board and in some cases a refrigerator, dishwasher or other gadgets.

Living Room Decor Ideas

The decor of the living room plays a vital role in making a statement of your style and lavishness, Here are some living room decor ideas that you can consider:

1. Throw pillows add warmth and comfort to the living room. These are important accents for living room decor. Throw pillows can add splashes of bold colors to an otherwise pale color scheme.

2. You can use area rugs to cover up unattractive areas of carpet and floors and define seating areas of the living room. For a large living room, rugs are a great asset for defining more than one seating areas of the room.

3. Painting your living room walls with a paste shades or neutral color as white or beige gives you more choices while buying furniture and furnishings for the room for creating the character of the room.

4. Layered lighting plan is best for living rooms. By this you can spotlight the reading area or the entertainment area. You can use uniform lighting for a casual family gathering and disco lights or accent lighting for party time.

5. Entertainment unit is fast gaining attention in the modern living room decor and design ideas.

6. Specialty areas can be created using painted decorative screens in a large living room.

Kitchen Design made easy – www.designaddict.us

Kitchen is an important space in your house. Like your living room and bedroom, the kitchen also needs to be trendy. But many homes today have less kitchen area and the storage that goes into it is enormous. A space saving modular kitchen is a good option to fulfill your storage needs and also make your kitchen look great. A few points listed below should be considered while designing kitchens.

Colour:
The colour of your kitchen cabinets and the wall tiles usually depends on your personality. You may have bright colours like yellow and red or light shades in cream or white. It is best not to use more than two different colours for the cabinets. For example go for red and yellow or cream and brown. Metallic colours can be used as accents to give your kitchen a trendy look. If the kitchen is too small, it is better to go for light colours as they reflect light and make the kitchen look larger. The overhead cabinets which touch the ceiling can be painted in the colour of the walls to make the kitchen look less bulky.

Ventilation:
It is very important to have a window in the kitchen which gives you fresh air and ample light. Invest in a good quality chimney even if the window is of a fairly large size. Chimney makes the kitchen less suffocating and keeps it fresh.

Layouts:
Decide the layout of your kitchen depending upon the size. If the kitchen area is very small, a compact C-Shaped layout would work well. This way you can utilize maximum space for storage. An L- Shaped or a parallel layout would work well for an elongated kitchen. If your kitchen is large or you plan an open kitchen, go for the island concept. You can have colourful lamps hanging over the island counter to add a zing to the kitchen.

Storage:
Try to keep most of your appliances inside the cabinets. This would make the kitchen look neat. Plan for storing your toasters, blenders and food processors inside the cabinets to keep the counter free. You can have a separate shelf above the counter for your microwave. Use the corners below the platform effectively by placing magic corners or revolving units. Use pull outs for storage of vessels and grains to avoid the task of bending to reach these things after you open the shutters.

Lighting:
As mentioned above, it is important to have natural lighting in the kitchen. Besides, have ceiling mounted fixtures which will illuminate the kitchen well. Use pelmet lights below overhead storage to light up your kitchen platform. You can have spot lights to illuminate crockery units or cabinets with glass shutters.

With a little bit of your imagination you can make your kitchen functional and trendy. So go ahead and design it to make it the best part of your house!

Welcome to Das Park Hotel in Linz, Austria. This unique hotel has transformed standard concrete sewer pipes into hotel rooms, simply by giving them a back wall and large front door, and drilling a window in the side for a little bit of natural light. Throw in a lamp, a bed, and some sleeping bags

The three pipes/rooms are part of a larger hostel/hotel complex, which can be seen in the background of the two images above. My understanding of it is that visitors would normally stay in the main building, but can request the pipes instead [at extra cost? I’m not sure] – you get a key-code for the lock on the room, and enjoy your cylindrical accommodations. All the amenities – showers, toilets, mini bar, cafeteria, etc. are located in the main building.
